Each year somewhere on the order of 50 billion animals are killed each year for food. 60% of grain in the U.S. is used to feed cows and sheep and chickens and pigs and goats for slaughter. Fecal run-off spoils the rivers and the great supply chain that mixes beef from across the country and around the world is leading to outbreaks of salmonella and e coli, not to emotion the everyday diseases of meat consumption arteriosclerosis, high blood pressure and cancer.
