I have two friends who worked at HP between 18-25 years, one in middle management and the other as a tech supervisor.
Before Fiorina, HP was THE cutting edge of tech devlpmt: HP created 3 of the 10 top tech innovations of all time at the Smithsonian in DC (ie, along with the wheel, auto, etc).
HP was also the poster child of the "good" corporation: it was the ideal company to work for. HP was the one who pioneered flextime and put tele-working from home in the dictionary.
Then along along comes Fiorina who lays off or forced into early retirement the very people who made the company, introducing massive outsourcing to foreign countries. Then she proposes to merge HP with Compaq. The Hewlett family -- the folks who founded the company - placed full page ads in the NY Times, Wall St Journal, SF Chronicle, SJ Mercury News, etc. not to go there. Fiorina in her bravado surges forward with the merge. Sure enough, HP's stock plummets from $120/share to $20. Fiorina is subsequently fired within a year. What glorious history? Fiorina ruined HP; don't let her ruin California.
