What has No Child Left Behind done to public education?

On the next Your Call, we'll speak with Diane Ravitch, author of The Death and Life of the Great American School System. Ravitch was a prominent advocate for charter schools and high-stakes testing under the first Bush administration, but she recently had what she calls a radical change of heart. How has No Child Left Behind affected the schools in your area? How can we create a quality public education school system? It's Your Call, with Rose Aguilar, and you.

Guests:
Diane Ravitch--education professor at NYU and author of The Death and Life of the Great American School System: How Testing and Choice Are Undermining Education

Good points. Very interesting show. I didn't listen to the whole thing, did anyone bring up the growing interest in alternative education? One of the main reasons I pulled my child out of public school and am not educating him through a public school funded homeschool program is because of the awful push for standardized testing, big classes, and cuts to the arts... among other things.

Thanks.

I meant: am "now" educating him though a public school funded homeschool program..., not "not". :)

Thank you for doing this show, we need more like this. The new Guggenheim documentary coming out this September called "Waiting for Superman" serves as another blow to teachers and the public school system, supporting the misguided bi-partisan approach to education. Cleverly veiled in the ways that Ravitch was talking about, it promotes Charters and choice as the savior and cure-all. Please, please, go into this subject more so people can see the arguments more clearly.
